I find it frustrating when you don't know your work schedule for the week. I have found myself like that for a while now. I worked on Friday and to my knowledge I worked again Monday at 8am, then Tuesday at 6:30am, the rest of the week wasn't written yet. So I wrote that down and moved on with life.
This morning when I got to work I started unloading the truck, thinking of all the possible ways we could get the 1300 piece truck unloaded before big boss came to see it. While unloading boxes on the chemical wall I was chatting with a coworker about it and he said I don't have to worry. I just looked at him strangely and said "Yeah, I come in at 6 tomorrow." He looked at me strangely and asked if she had changed the schedule.
Now I was really confused. So I marched myself to the front and looked at it. She had changed it so I don't come in Tuesday at all. I will not be around for big boss to come in. I won't even be unloading the boxes, organizing, zoning, nothing.
That is a load off on me, but now I have to work over my hair appointment, which she said I can have off. So I will call, or go in tomorrow and discuss it with her. Very annoying. I wish she just left it the way it was. I don't want to go in when big boss is in there, and I really don't want to go in at 6:30 tomorrow so I will go in in the afternoon and ask her if I can switch with another worker for Friday or Saturday. Annoying.
I was waiting for a call tonight, not sure if I was going in tomorrow, I was planning on switching a day already since my other coworker doesn't want that many hours, but the call never came. So I assume the plan is still as is.
Very annoying. I can't wait until big boss is gone and we can get back to doing things wrong again.

Too Good to Pass Up
Family Dollar started their super awesome deal today. They are selling all summer clothes for $1 and $2 a set/piece. They have some short sleeve onesies for that price too.
I had to go in at 7:00am to set it up in our store. But come on, how can you pass a deal up like that? They are some cute things too. It will last till everything is sold. Sadly there are only sport jerseys for the boys, except babies onesies.
Anyway, on to boring work information. I also had to go in early today so I can learn how to open the store and order items the store needs extra of. Strange that the newest cashier is in charge isn't it? Why didn't she bring in her assistants, who don't know how to do those things?

The Literary Word
The last three days have been consumed in reading. Or listening. When Mom went to Utah to visit an old friend she sent a book home for us to read. I was a little leery because it isn't something I would have picked up at the bookstore. I even remember walking by it saying "I would never buy this, how horrible." But there I was glued to my computer chair while I hung on every word. I found myself stacking dishes next to me, unable to take a second to run them upstairs. I would wake early in the morning and listen to it as I got ready for work. Think about at work all day, and rush home to listen to more.
I was hooked.
What are these books you ask? The Hunger Games.
And the second book Catching Fire.
I listened to both in three days! Suzanne Collins has a wonderful writing style, she keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time wondering what will happen next. Wondering who will survive.
Here is a synopsis of the first book:
You don't get one for the second, it will give away what happened at the end of the first. Just read and find out. It is better that way I promise. I plan on buying them when I have the money to do so they are really good! And now I have to wait for the third to come out ... in one year!
On another note: They ended up not firing that girl, our district manager said if she was going to be fired it would have been the 31st, not this far into the next month. But my manager is under the microscope now. Our regional manager is going to be here on the 29th, the day after truck, to see how our store looks. We are going to have to haul butt to get it all done. We usually aren't done till Thursday, 3 days after truck. I am staying a cashier, but I am being trained as a manager/assistant manager. Maybe I will get a raise.

And the second book Catching Fire. Here is a synopsis of the first book:
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games.

“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.”
So there are some scary things happening at work. $100 is missing from the deposit last month and there is talk of firing someone because of it.
Remember when I wrote that my boss was gone for a week or so? Well, while she was gone everyone was written up for doing something wrong. Our district manager snuck in the store and managed to get out the front door with 4 shopping carts and a U-boat before someone noticed her. She took them out one by one and slowly too.
Another was written up for sitting on the counter ... for 5 hours.
Another was written up for having $100 missing from her till.
I was the only one not written up. I did get a verbal, but that was both my and my assistant managers fault. We didn't check the receipt of a former employee for the price she bought her item for. I gave her back $15 too much, she returned the extra money and I was given a verbal lashing over it, but no write up.
So ...
Since we may be losing one of our workers, over the missing $100, I might be getting a promotion to assistant manager. I am not sure I really want to. I like not being in charge of the scary stuff in the store. I like just hanging back and chilling as a cashier. I will be working 40 hours a week, and have a chance to get a raise.
I look at it as growth and experience, even if I am dragging my feet into it. There is a possible chance I may even be offered a store to manage. After I gain experience that is.
Just wanted to share the might-happen news. Nothing has happened yet, but my manager said she would pick me over a promotion than my fellow cashier (who might I add has been working there longer).
We will see, I just hope they don't fire her before the whole Christmas season ... I don't know how we will do it with only 4 people running the store. No breaks for me I guess. Busy Ashley.

So my car is a little crooked ... whats wrong with that?
It all started at Heathers house ... or on the way there. Apparently there was a lonely screw in the road that felt it needed a friend in the shape of my rear passenger tire. They became bonded quite quickly and my tire felt the need to let go of its previous friend, air.
We had dinner at Heathers house Sunday and when Ty and I got back to my car the tire was flat. So we sat down in the crusty sidewalk grass and changed it out for the donut.
No worries right?
The next morning, as I prepared to take it to Les Schwab my donut was flat. So Ty called his girlfriend to come pick me and the tire up and we drove to Les Schwab to have them fix it without the car. They did so in record time, 15 minutes, and we were out the door to replace it.
In all the whole operation took 45 minutes, I am a pro at changing tires because of my friends and their flats in Idaho Falls, but I wasn't sure if I got the bolts on there tight enough, and I wasn't going to be very happy if the tire flew off while I was on the interstate so I stopped by Les Schwab during my lunch break to make sure it was right.
I waited about 10 minutes and the guy pulled me out into the garage area to show me my front tires were at the end of their life due to a bad front end alignment. He said I need it fixed as soon as possible, my tires are in bad shape.
I guess the screw was there to show me I needed to get that done before any major trips, but why oh why does it have to cost so much?
On another note, my boss is gone this week for family and work has never been better. Yeah we have to unload truck by ourselves, but we are getting it and finding it less stressful.

Is that Mutiny I Hear?
I was doing so well for a while there writing, commenting, being a decent blogger, then it sorta drifted back to the way it was before (expect this time I am still commenting way to go Ashley!)
So here is a short recap of what happened since the last time I wrote:
I worked.
End of story.
Haha, there were a couple breaks where I went to Lagoon, but for the most part I did work. For being a part time cashier I work over 30 hours a week (more than one of the assistants). Bleh. I thought this store would be a better work environment, but it is just as bad of the old store. Although our district manager hasn’t had to come break up fights at ours … yet.
I get along with everyone, but the manager. She is just a mean resentful person and she finds pleasure in setting people up for failure. We have a running joke that if something isn’t done it is *Red’s fault. Only because our manager blames her for everything. Red finds it funny and jokes along with us.
I go through the weekly schedule and write down who I work with only because I don’t want to close with the big M, I love closing with *Shorty. She is a lot of fun and we get what we have to do done in a steady pace instead of rushing like I do when I am working with M.
I don’t work with *Boy because he is a cashier as well and we really shouldn’t be working together, but he is the bosses pet and therefore a snot. Imagine the teacher’s pet and you have him.
M is leaving at the end of this week with family problems so it will be Boy running the store.
Yes. The cashier is running the store, even though she has 2 assistant managers. Dumb we all know.
Anyway, getting away from crappy work.
Lagoon Trip 1:
I had to pleasure of going to Lagoon with most of the family. It was a lot of fun and I love going with a BIG group of kids. Holly was so happy to be back with Malissa’s kids again, she loves taking Tanner and Adam on rides. She said she missed that part of it when drama was going on. Next year we will plan to take drama with us on another day. No worries.
Lagoon Trip 2:
When we went to Lagoon the first trip Holly, Spencer, and I got our tickets validated for bounceback. Holly and I used the pass Friday. I got off work around 4 on Thursday and drove down to Utah to Days Inn in Clearfield. We stayed the night, after visiting Barns and Noble (I love books! I can’t help it). My eye had been acting up with allergies the day before and on Thursday it was swollen and red and gross. I was hoping it wouldn’t bother me, but boy howdy it had a different plan. We ended up driving to Walmart Neighborhood Mart … strange creepy green Walmart, in Layton at 11 to get eye drops and allergy pills.
We got up the next day, my eye almost swollen shut, but that wasn’t going to stop us from having a fun day in Lagoon! We got there around 10:30 and got into the park, even though the rides weren’t operating yet. We found a nice bench and waited. Dracula’s castle was the first ride, as usual.
It was a hot day, close to 100 degrees, and it was the last Friday the part was open for the season. So everyone and their brother were there, but that didn’t stop us. I loved the shows, they were so fun and upbeat and they played an All American Rejects song I love!
We partied till 11:00 and left when the park closed back to our hotel. My eye was raw from being gross and wet all day and me rubbing it, like your nose feels when you have a cold and rub it most of the day. So I got a wet towel and laid it on my eye while I read for a bit. Around midnight we turned out the lights. Neither of us could sleep with the noisy air conditioner, so I opened my eyes to turn it to a different setting and freaked out!
I thought I went blind in my left eye! (it was my right eye that was infected). I couldn’t see anything out of it, and I was freaking out, quietly of course. I put my hand in front of it and realized I could still see my fingers, it was just really dark. It took me a minute to remember my eyes adjust to the dark and light and since I had a towel over my infected eye it was already dilated and could therefore see really well in the dark where as the other was still adjusting.
It felt really weird, but was way awesome to experience. You should try it sometime.
We got up and got us some Rumbi Grill before leaving town for home.
Why is it that you get home quickly, but getting to where you are going takes forever? I tried to slow my car down, I didn’t want to be back. I had to work at 4.
My eye is doing a lot better today, I still can’t put makeup on it yet, but it isn’t swollen. It should be back to normal by next week, stinkin’ allergies!

A Break Away from the Ordinary
Warning: This post is picture heavy (seems to be the theme). I was allowed to use the camera!
I am scheduled to work 2 days a week now, and each of the days I only work 4 hours. So I took the free time I have and took a little educational vacation.
First I stopped by:

It was pretty cool. When you pay for your ticket you are given a ticket explaining one persons life on the Titanic. It was a real person and at the end of the exhibit you find out of you survived.

I was Annie Funk. I had a feeling I wasn't going to make due to the fact I was unmarried and traveling alone 2nd class. Annie helped set up a school for girls in India in 1907 and worked there as a missionary till 1912 when she received a telegram from her family saying she should go home to Pennsylvania to see her dying mother. She originally got two tickets, one for a boat to England, and a second on a ship to America, but due to the coal strike the second boat didn't have enough fuel to make it so she was offered an upgrade to the Titanic for 39 pounds more. She accepted and boarded. She celebrated her 38th birthday on April 10th on the boat.
The night the ship hit the iceberg she was woken by a ship stewardess and given a lifebelt and told to go to the top deck and board a lifeboat. She did as she was told and was placed in the last spot on the lifeboat.
A woman and her two children ran to the lifeboat and cried to her "My children My children!" and Annie gave up her seat to that woman so she and her children would make it out.
Sadly she didn't make it to another lifeboat, but she did go down as a Heronie. She even had her own poster dedicated to her as a hero on the Titanic.
I was the only one out of my group to die. Holly ended up getting the Unsinkable Molly Brown ... we didn't figure it out till we were sitting above the iceburg (real ice and yes it was very cold I could only keep my hand on it for about 15 seconds) when we put two and two together. Molly's real name was Margaret and she wasn't called Molly till the movie came out. Strange.
We left the museum and headed over to the zoo where I took a lot of pictures so here goes!
This guy teased us. He was walking by the giant tortoise (who was hidden in his hut) and wouldn't put his feathers up no matter what sweet talk we sent his way.
Can you hear him saying "Cheese!" He was such a poser.
This little guy was just sitting there above the birds staring at us as if he was thinking "If I don't move they won't see me." Haha didn't work!
See mom they do have Giraffe there! This hut was really cool and I spent a lot of time going through the things there. I was touching the lion fur patch when a GIANT black spider climbed on the table and ran under the fur.
I prompty left.
This little girl was just born! How cute, she looked so soft.
He just woke up, can you tell? He walked all the way to the water hole and drank for a good 10 minutes before returning to his shady spot and crashing. The female lion was hanging out near the top of the cage, she didn't move for us.
The perfect Flamingo shot, he knew it too.
Do you see the egg? It is near the glowing mother ^_^. A guest at the zoo was standing there watching it, she was so excited she pointed it out to us too. I climbed on the fense (shh) and took a picture to avoid the metal getting in the way.
And here is a wanna be Flamingo ... he isn't as pretty ... or as good at the one leg stand, but he does have the colors down. I am not sure what he was called, he was in the random bird cage.

This sign reminds me of Oregon so I had to take a picture. Don't you all just want to be there all the time?
These pelican's can read I guess, they were sitting right where the sign said they would. They woke up when we were running back through, but really ... they just aren't that pretty so eh.
When we walked up to the Llama cage in the children's area this teenager Llama walked up to us and fell over. Such drama.
Haha the drama llama!
I was standing quite a distance from this little guy. The camera is wicked awesome and made it look like I was right next to him. They stayed in the back corner and didn't want to swim for us, so you get this, he is looking at me like "Not another one."
I can't resist a black swan. Their story is fun and Paul Link has brought a whole new thought when I hear their name.
"The term Black Swan comes from the 17th century European assumption that 'All swans are white'. In that context, a black swan was a symbol for something that was impossible or could not exist. In the 18th Century, the discovery of black swans in Western Australia metamorphosed the term to connote that a perceived impossibility may actually come to pass." -The Black Swan by Nassim Nicholas Taleb in 2007.
He came walking up first and stared at us. His friend walked right up behind him and the first one stretched his neck up very long, reminded me of a dinosaur.
Look how big his feet are. Isn't he so cute you just want to squishy his face? He only stood up to turn around and plop back down. Lazy.
We stopped by Mr. Showy to see if he would spread his feathers for us, obviously he didn't but he did walk up to us like he was on the runway. They learn it in peacock 101.
That is it for my picture post. Hope you enjoyed!

They learn it in peacock 101.That is it for my picture post. Hope you enjoyed!
