The Princess and the Captain

Ok so I finished one of the many books I am reading. The book I read was titled Princetta, but at the end Malva (the main character) sits down to write a story about her life and she titles it The Princess and the Captain, and there is an Amazon link that has that book title so that is what I will call it here.

(click the picture for the Amazon link)

Synopsis:

Malva is the princess of Galnicia, destined to marry the Prince of Andemark. Or so her parents think. On the eve of her wedding, she escapes at dead of night from under her parents' noses, little realising that she is letting herself in for a life of peril and adventure, including being shipwrecked in a huge storm and captured as part of a harem. Hugely visual, the book tells of the wonder of frozen steppes and oriental palaces, of sailing ships and treasure islands. This is a book of drama, magic and excitement, where challenges have to be overcome, friendships cemented and hearts broken.

My Opinion:
I thought it was slow for the most part. One section left me going "what the cheeseball?" this doesn't fit! But it did up the adventure. I thought it was an ok book, something I would check out at the library until I read the end.

**Spoilers ahead!**

You have been warned. If you ever want to read this book do not read this part! And if you don't care then keep reading.

I hated the ending because the captain dies! He gets stabbed through the chest in the middle of the book and some magic crushed bugs and seaweed heals him in 2 days, but at the very end he gets stabbed again because he sneezes. He tried to shoot the gun but the room was full of hay and he sneezed before he could pull the trigger. He got stabbed clean through the chest and Malva had to take the gun from him and kill the bad guy (who just randomly appeared in the story when the author thought it was going slow). He died, they burried him three days later and the Princetta never got married. She set her town to be a kinda of utopia and lived an old maid till she died, taking the last of her line with her (she was an only child). There were twins in the story as well and one jumped off the boat to save the rest (too long to explain over a blog) so he just died. The dog turned into a statue, that was sad as well. I didn't care about the cook dying, it was his own selfishness. But come on! THE CAPTAIN! UGH! I hate movies/books where the love interst dies.

Well ... I hate most of them. I LOVE My Girl. I just finished watching it tonight (thanks Heather!). After reading a depressing ending I had to go and make it all better by watching a depressing movie. Maybe the next book I choose to finish will be a happy one. ::crosses fingers::

Edit: So when I finished writing this I clicked view blog to see if it all looked nice and My Girl was the randomized song. How ironic is that?!

Feline Friends

As most of you know I love my cats. Even though Lacy is a hand-me-down cat she is still a good companion. Lately she hasn't take care of herself and has grown huge mats on her back. Like another cat is perched on her it is pretty gross. Well Saturday I pinned her down between my legs, the bed, and a blanket (to prevent being scratched) and took the scissors to her. I managed to get the massive mat off her back. She still has little ones left. After that 1 1/2 hour struggle she hasn't left me alone. She is so happy she follows me, lays all over me, sleeps on my face. She is just a happy cat. Right now she is perched on the chair back behind me.

Gus is a monster, but he can be cute sometimes. I went into Tysons room this morning to get a fresh picture of him and he wouldn't stop rubbing against me to get a clear picture. So sorry you get an old one (maybe last Summer). He purrs all the time anymore (with Tyson home). He still bites, but sometimes it is fun to play rough with a cat. Yesterday he was laying on Ty's bed when I came in he started stalking me. He didn't bite me though, I managed to thwart him.

I get Reader updates for fun events in the world. This morning I read about a 2 headed cow that lived for a day before it died. I read about some celebrities. I read about a fun way to decorate a kitchen.

Then I read IT.

Yes IT.

Ugly Bat Boy. If you have not seen IT you must run over and read about.

Tell me what you think. Lacy looked bad with her hair for a while there, but she is a beauty queen compared to this thing.

Picture tag

Crystal tagged me so here goes. I really don't have a pictures folder on my computer with pictures I take from a camera (I have an art folder with some of my favorite artwork I find on the internet and some of my own). I am lacking in the camera department. So I found a couple folders of pictures I have and chose the forth from those.
The rules: forth folder, forth picture.
I have 2 folders so you get two pictures because I couldn't decide which was better.
Picture #1:This is me at Disneyland a few years ago. Notice the leg brace. Notice the ride I am pointing to. I fell off Snow White. And if any of you have been to Disneyland it is pretty hard to imagine Snow White as being a dangerous ride. Here is the story. It was close to midnight we wanted to get more rides in and the park was going to close so when it finished we got up to run off the ride as fast as we could. I was on the far right of the ride, Tyson next to me and Heather close to the exit. They both got off and I tried to slide over but found it faster to just walk sideways. I pushed off with the handlebar to help balance myself as I got ready to step out and my leg hyper extended because the bar wasn't locked into place. It hyper extended inwards, so my knee on my left leg was going toward my knee on my right leg. If you can imagine. It didn't hurt at first, it was really hot and I felt sick to my stomach. The lady controlling the ride had a horrified face, stopped the ride and made all the little kids get off in the middle. I felt horrible. We got to do a behind the scenes ride to the hospital area to check it out. I had to ride in a wheel chair the whole next day (so not fun) and I got a brace for the rest of the vacation (I think this happened on the first or second day). It felt like my leg wanted to slide back out again when I walked without the brace. I only had to wear it for a couple weeks.

Picture #2:

This is from Holly's cell phone when we were in Lagoon this last summer with the cousins. Adam doesn't look to happy here. We really did have a fun time. We were soaking wet from the log ride. I was behind Spencer and he kept telling me to just breath. I hate rides that drop. I avoid them. He was too funny he was telling me to calm down haha. I must have been hyperventilating :p. You can see Spencer and Malissa in the background.

And there you have it. I think everyone else was already tagged. But if you haven't done it yet you should. It was fun.

Of concerts and noise

Hey!

This is super late … I know I said I would get better. Sorry.

Anyway,

Tyson and I went to a concert January 31st and it was pretty cool. I didn’t know a whole lot of the lyrics so I couldn’t scream along. It was really loud. I didn’t get my hearing back until Monday afternoonish. Ty and I went to church Sunday and tried to be quiet, but we couldn’t really tell. I am sure we were scream/whispering to each other. Poor teachers. The base was so loud my pant legs shook. I could feel it in my chest the whole 5 hours, and I suspect it isn’t good for your heart. I didn’t have a camera but Tyson did, so you get a couple pictures from him.

We listened to three bands before the main event. The first was Mury. I felt bad for them, they sounded good, but because they were the first band out there they had to tell the microphone people and the base people how to change things all the time. Setting it up for the next group. The second group was called Between the Trees. They were awesome! I would buy a cd from them. The third band was called Madina Lake. They were more screamo than anything.

Then came Anberlin.

Pictures:

This is The Icon, where the concert was being held. No it wasn't in the bar, it was next door. :p As you can see there was not a short supply of Emo kids.

This is the main singer from Between the Trees. There aren't a whole lot of clear pictures since the room was dark and Ty took them over his head (it was really crowded) so you only get to see them. No Mury or Madina Lake, sorry.

This is the main singer for Anberlin. He was really excited for the concert, he kept swinging out over the crowd hanging by the rafters.

Ty asked me to get ready for a picture. It was black in there and the flash hurt so I got ready, but as a result it looks like I was the old fogie at the concert. Haha. I can see me thinking "Kids these days listen to nothing but noise." I really did have fun, I just don't like bright lights ^_^.

Here is a sample of my favorite song by Anberlin:

Paper Thin Hymn

Enjoy.

The update you were all waiting for

Haha, right. I'm sure you all forgot, so let me send you somewhere to jog your memory ("but not too hard" haha guess the movie!).

Click here to remember --> HERE

Ok, now that you are all caught up lets get going with the post.

I had a dentist appointment on the 20th (I know I waited so long to post. I will get better.) I went in at 9:00 AM (but I am always late so I got there around 9:12 or so haha) and signed in. I was alone in the office so I chose to sit on the side with a tv. Obama's inauguration was on. I sat there and watched 30 minutes of it before my hygensit showed up and esocorted me to the only empty room. It was a full morning. The inaugaration was on in that room as well. She sat me down, put my pink bib on and left. So I watched a bit more tv.

Boring boring boring.

About 10 minutes later she came back and cleaned my teeth. She told me I had calcite buildup on my back teeth and showed me a way to brush to stop that from happening. She said the dentist would be in shortly, he was doing a bridge in and didn't want to come check my teeth in the middle of it. I told her I was ok to sit and watch tv, she said ok and left. I think I sat in the chair for around 45 minutes waiting. But I wasn't too upset. I didn't have anywhere to go and I had comepletely forgotten the inaugaration was that day so I was ok to sit and watch. The hygenist came in at one point and watched a little with me. She said there was only one patient who didn't want it to be on, but otherwise every tv in the place had it going.

Eric came in and quickly checked my teeth. I was crossing my fingers hoping all that hard work flossing and rinsing had paid off.

Dentist: Looks good. (gets ready to leave)
Me: Really? Even the soft spot?
Dentist: Yeah, it is still a stain, but not at a high risk. There is always potential for a cavity there.
Me: Ok, thanks.

I got my things and he walked me out. So there you have it. I am cavity free, with the potential of always getting a cavity. But all my teeth have that risk. So it will be a life long struggle. Go figure haha I never had to worry about cavities. Now I have joined the normal people.

Side note: I am going to add a playlist and update my book section while I am sitting here. So feel free to check them out later.

Flypaper

Wow look at this ... I am writing in my blog again. Something rare.

You guys should know I am addicted to books. Every time I go to Idaho Falls I always spend hours in Barns N Nobel and I never return home empty handed. Dad joked that when we were moving there were tons of little boxes titled Ashley's Books.

Anyway, since Tyson got home I have tried to get him to read some of my favorites. But of course he feels he doesn't have time for this so I end up reading out loud, kinda force feed him in a way.

We've read The Giver (really good book if you didn't have to read it in school you should check it out sometime), and we just started Inkheart. The movie is coming out and I hate watching a movie before reading the book it goes with. I want Tyson to read the book with me so he can be like "That didn't happen that way in the book!" with me.

Click the book to see some book specs on Amazon, and click the trailer link to see the movie preview.

So since I haven't read this book for a while I have forgotten the detail the author put into her writing. One line in particular caught my attention and made me pause.
Here Mo and Meggie are packing for a trip and she starts by quoting something he had told her previously,

"If you take a book with you on a journey," Mo has said when he put the first one in her box, "an odd thing happens: The book begins collecting your memories. And forever after you have only to open that book to be back where you first read it. It will all come into your mind with the very first words: the sights you saw in that place, what it smelled like, the ice cream you ate while you were reading it... yes, books are like flypaper-memories cling to the printed page better than anything else."

With that thought, take the book and start a new adventure, let it trap your memories so you can cherish them later.

Moving ...

I am sure all of you are wondering what is happening. At least those of you in distant cities (Malis ^_^). Some things fell through, some mishaps with families on the other end, and some emotional roller coasters (again not on my end) led me to believe I shouldn't move. Besides I can't get a job just yet with the economy the way it is. I plan to look deeper come Monday (it has been too nice not working I am in no rush).

What have I done in my new spare time? Not sleep in of course. Since Tyson came home he thinks we all need to have a schedule. I am awake at 9:30am every morning. If I get home at 3am I am still awake at 9:30am. Tyson comes in and asks me what I am doing in bed still. A bonus with him home is that I don't have to sleep with Mr. Annoying aka Gus. His cute wears off at 5 in the morning when he wants out.

If you have any questions just email me at geology.ashley@gmail.com I check it several times a day. I am trying to get away from my kin_watashi@yahoo.com, I made that when I was in high school and it is just so cheesy now.

But that is about it. I should have some interesting posts coming up with my job searching. We well see how that goes.

Keep in touch ^_^
